Live exit poll, updates, results and reaction as the polls close at General Election 2024

The polls will close at 10pm and counting will begin in the general election 2024. Wales is electing 32 MPs and the latest Wales-specific polling shows the race is too close to call in four key seats.

While Labour is expected to take the majority of the 32 seats here in Wales, the seats of Ynys Mon and Caerfyrddin are both head-to-head battles with Plaid Cymru. If Plaid took those it would double the expectations seen in most polls for the party to end this election with two seats, those of Ceredigion Preseli and Dwyfor Meirionnydd.

The Conservatives face a total wipeout in Wales, losing all 14 seats they had in the 2019 election, unless Fay Jones can hang on in the seat of Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe, where pollsters say it is within a point between her and the Liberal Democrat candidate David Chadwick.

In the neighbouring Montgomeryshire seat, it is expected to be a close fight between Craig Williams, who is standing as a Conservative but without support of his party after admitting betting on the date of the election, and Labour's Stephen Witherden.

At this election there has been a major change in Wales with the electoral map being redrawn and the number of constituencies changing from 40 to 32. Join our general election WhatsApp community for all the latest news.

Results are expected to start coming in Wales from around 2.15am - you can see the full list here - and we have reporters across the country bringing the latest news, analysis and results as they happen.
