LIVE: Drivers face EIGHT-MILE queues on M6 after emergency repairs - latest updates
Drivers are facing long delays on the M6 near Greater Manchester while emergency repairs take place. Two lanes of traffic have been closed on the northbound carriageway between junctions 22 at Warrington and 23 for St Helens.
The issue is causing 'very slow traffic' approaching junction 23 at the A580 East Lancs Road, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system. Further details about the emergency repairs are yet to be confirmed.
In a post on Twitter, a spokesperson for National Highways North West wrote: "M6 northbound between J22 and J23 (between Warrington and Newton-le-Willows). Two lanes (of three) are closed for emergency carriageway repairs. Delays of 30 minutes; six miles of congestion on the approach."

Traffic can be seen building up on the M6 from Warrington, approaching St Helens. The issue is affecting part of the M6 which is already being affected by smart motorway works, which are taking place from Warrington to Wigan.
Those roadworks began last March and are expected to end later this year or in 2023.
