Last week it was Storm Eunice, now Franklin is causing havoc with the football schedule.

The Met Office issued red weather warnings for high winds - meaning there is a danger to life - in much of southern and eastern England and south Wales last week.

The storm, described as one of the worst to hit the country in 30 years, caused power cuts to tens of thousands of properties.

A clutch of matches were called off over safety fears with Bournemouth's Championship clash against Nottingham Forest the most high-profile postponement.

In total, 13 matches across the top five divisions were called off.

Now, with a clutch of midweek games pencilled in, the latest storm is starting to affect the schedule.

Fleetwood Town have postponed their planned meeting with Sheffield Wednesday. The League One match was set for Tuesday night at Highbury Stadium.

But, posting on Monday morning, a Fleetwood statement said: "Fleetwood Town can confirm Tuesday’s Sky Bet League One fixture against Sheffield Wednesday has been called off following storm damage to the stadium overnight.

"The game has had to be postponed due to safety concerns after the high winds over the last 48 hours have caused structural damage to the Parkside Stand.
