Lisa Fallon: Ireland have to believe they can get a result against Sweden

Lisa Fallon says the Republic of Ireland have got the correct mindset to finally qualify for a big international tournament.

The Girls in Green face off against runaway Group A leaders Sweden in Gothenburg tomorrow afternoon in a game you can watch live on RTÉ2 and the RTÉ Player.

The Swedes just need a draw to qualify for the finals in Australia and New Zealand next year, but with a record crowd of just under 15,000 expected to attend the game, they'll want to secure their place in style.

And, after smashing 15 goals past Georgia on Thursday, they'll be confident of repeating the victory they recorded over Vera Pauw's side at Tallaght Stadium last year.

Speaking on RTÉ's Soccer Podcast, Fallon, who was involved in the Northern Ireland men's team when they qualified for Euro 2016, says that the players have to believe they can get the job done in their remaining qualifiers.

"What we're starting to see with this team now is an identity, who they are," she said.

"We know what way the play, what the system is and what the players' roles are. We're starting to see players take ownership of the positions that they're playing. There's that bit of accountability.

"One of the biggest things that's changed is mindset and belief. We've always been, 'we almost got there and didn't we do great.' That's different in this group.

"They're not afraid to set the bar high. They're accountable and when you can get a team into that space you're in a different place. I know when I was with Northern Ireland it was a team that had never qualified for a Euros.

"In 2016 we qualified with the same players we had in the 2014 campaign. The only thing that changed was mindset and belief - that's why it's such a powerful entity."
