Lions name team to tackle Stormers, back same starting XV from Glasgow postponement

Lions coach Ivan van Rooyen has named his team to face the Stormers in a URC clash at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Van Rooyen picked the same starting XV that was scheduled to face Glasgow Warriors last weekend, before the game was postponed due to a gastroenteritis outbreak in the Scottish camp.

Jordan Hendrikse will get a run at flyhalf, with Gianni Lombard providing cover on the bench. In the other change from the line-up which started in the 39-37 loss to Ulster on 15 October, PJ Botha comes in at hooker for Jaco Visagie, who features on the bench.

There is one change on the bench from last week's proposed line-up, with Morgan Naude coming in for Sti Sithole, who suffered concussion in training earlier this week.

Last season, the Lions beat the Stormers 37-19 in Cape Town in December but lost 32-10 at home in February.

Scrum coach Julian Redelinghuys acknowledged the quality of the reigning URC champions but said they were focused on their own processes.

"There's no doubt that the Stormers are a quality side, but in saying that our focus this week has been on our plans and how we want to execute on Saturday. We control what we can, with a sharp focus on our processes in the build-up," Redelinghuys said.

Apart from the win over the Stormers in Cape Town last December, the Lions have struggled against the other SA teams.

Redelinghuys said they were intent on improving in this regard.

"We certainly want to improve our performances against local opposition. We believe if we can better our performances in local URC derbies, the results will take care of themselves. There’s no better opportunity than this Saturday at home in front of our home fans," he said.

Saturday's clash kicks off at 16:00.
