Lions' Gwavu unfazed by big-hitting Titans, Mashimbyi trusts process ahead of 1-Day Cup final

Lions coach Wandile Gwavu said they're not fazed by the prospect of playing the Cricket South Africa 1-Day Cup final at the Titans' imposing SuperSport Park fortress on Wednesday.

It's imposing in that the Titans' lowest score at home in the tournament is the 341/6 they made against the Knights.

They made 347/6 against the Paarl Rocks at the start of the competition and topped that with 453/3 against the North-West Dragons, with the latter total being the highest ever in South African domestic limited-overs history.

Their final home game against Western Province was rained off, but they'd done more than enough throughout the tournament not to worry about the final.

"It's a final and I know it's an away game, but we've played well in the past couple of games and we're taking that momentum and mindset into the game," Gwavu said.

"We've managed to get some good results home and away. Since it’s the final, both teams are under pressure to win the game.

"This is another game and both teams have a chance of doing well in the game, regardless of its stature and the conditions."

The Lions go into the final on the back of three consecutive wins, one of those being their last home game against the Titans last week where on an unseasonal Wanderers square turner, they bowled out their neighbours for 145, but won by one wicket with five overs left.

The Lions may also have some revenge on their minds after slipping up in the final Four-Day Series round where their seven-wicket loss to the Titans sent the title in the Titans' direction.

Gwavu said the Titans could be under more pressure to deliver a result as compared to them.

"Both the teams do want to win the game, but we're not putting ourselves under any pressure," Gwavu said.
