Lionel Messi's private view on Man Utd and why he always preferred them to Man City
If Lionel Messi ever wanted to test himself in the Premier League, he'd have probably played for Manchester United.

According to the Athletic, the immense history and pedigree of United meant Messi was more "charmed" by the club. While City's recent success and financial power have seen them become one of the biggest clubs in the world, it appeared Messi was more interested in the cultural cache of the Red Devils.
Sir Alex Ferguson did try his luck with signing Messi when he was an exciting teenager at Barcelona. A then 20-year-old Messi could not be swayed and he went on to become a footballing great.
Amid the interest from United and other clubs, Messi told FourFourTwo: "I'm happy in Barcelona. Why wouldn't I be? I've realised my dream. It's the best club in the world with the best players. My family are happy here; they like it."
