Linfield in the hunt after narrow defeat in Wales

Linfield suffered a narrow 1-0 away defeat to The New Saints (TNS) in the first leg of their Champions League first round qualifier.

David Healy's side will look to turn the tie around when the Welsh club travel to Windsor Park on Wednesday, 13 July, with Ryan Brobbel's second-half strike the only goal of the game.

Brobbel's low shot found the bottom corner to give the Welsh champions, playing their first Champions League tie in three years, a 1-0 victory.

David Healy’s side competed well and while they were second best in the opening 45 minutes, Danny Davies had to be alert for the home side to ensure Matthew Clarke’s header was cleared off the line.

Declan McManus could, and perhaps should, have doubled their advantage, but it was Linfield who went pushing for an equaliser in the closing stage, though ultimately to no avail.
