"Lines of communication will remain open" - David Anderson drops Leeds United transfer claim
Leeds United are still interested in striking a deal for Red Bull Salzburg star Brenden Aaronson and the ‘lines of communication will remain open’ despite the Whites’ January frustrations, according to Daily Mirror journalist David Anderson.
It proved to be a quiet transfer window at Elland Road, with head coach Marcelo Bielsa being unable to secure any reinforcements and missing out on top target Aaronson.
According to TEAMtalk, Leeds are confident of tying up a deal which will see Aaronson head to Yorkshire at the end of the season.
The report suggests Salzburg had little desire to sell the 16-cap United States international last month due to their Champions League commitments but that did not stop Whites director of football Victor Orta heading to Austria in an attempt to negotiate a switch.
However, Leeds may rue being unable to reach a January agreement as transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has suggested they will face competition from Premier League rivals as they look to sign Aaronson in the summer.
Aaronson has previously revealed his dream is to secure a move to the English top flight, so a move from Salzburg is likely to be of interest, but the Austrian outfit are in a strong negotiating position due to the 21-year-old’s contract not expiring until the summer of 2025.
The creative midfielder has registered three goals and eight assists in 27 appearances since the season got underway.

Anderson believes Aaronson remains firmly on Leeds’ radar and they are keen to acquire his services when the transfer window reopens.
The journalist reckons the Whites are still in close contact with Salzburg and the ball is in the Austrian side’s court.
