Limerick red cards 'a headache' for John Kiely - Liam Sheedy

Limerick need to tighten up on their discipline ahead of the Munster championship, Liam Sheedy and Shane Dowling believe.

Aaron Gillane was shown a second yellow card against Clare on Sunday after a pull in the air on Conor Cleary and became the third player from the All-Ireland champions to see the line in four Allianz League games.

Former Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy thinks John Kiely will be concerned at the prospect of playing provincial encounters without a full complement of players.

"If you ended up after four rounds of the Munster championship and you've had three players sent off, you’re a man down in three out of four games, I think that’s going to impact performance," he told RTÉ's Allianz League Sunday.

"So John Kiely has a small bit of a headache. Teams are going to target individuals. If you think that people are a little bit vulnerable to raising the hurling or striking, that’s going to happen.

"But maybe they’ve got the warning sign. They’ve got a few weeks now to get this right and I’d place my trust in John Kiely and Paul Kinnerk. But there is something to work on and they have to solve this quickly."

Shane Dowling, an All-Ireland winner with Limerick in 2018, agreed.

"I think when Gearóid (Hegarty) got sent off, everybody was saying 'That’s it now, maybe they’ll learn from it'," he said.

"But then last week Séamus (Flanagan), and today with Aaron… With the three sending offs, you probably can’t argue any of them.

"It’s about time now and hopefully that’ll be the end of it from a Limerick perspective."
