Limerick add Stephen Kelly to Jimmy Lee's backroom team

Former International Rules star Stephen Kelly has joined Jimmy Lee's Limerick senior football backroom team.

Newcastle West’s Kelly will join Lee’s set-up as a coach and selector.

One of the best players that his county has produced, Kelly’s speed and skill set him apart at the top level during the noughties when he represented his county with considerable success and did likewise with his country against Australia in the International Rules series.

Kelly is part of a new set-up that was unveiled last night. He will link up with another Newcastle West man, Lee to spearhead Limerick’s fortunes in 2024.

Lee has led his club to two county championships as well as a Munster Senior Club Championship final last season.

Having coached at Under-20 and club level, Kelly will also bring plenty of attacking and transitional nous to the set-up.

Former county senior boss, John Brudair from Dromcollogher-Broadford, is also on board as a coach/selector.

Brudair took on the role of manager from Maurice Horan in 2013 and held the position for three years.

One of the country’s leading sports science experts, Micheál Cahill from Mungret St Paul's, will join the backroom as strength and conditioning lead/coach.

Cahill is a former Limerick U21 footballer who previously had two terms as S&C coach with the Clare seniors. He also spent several years working in sports science and performance in the US.

Pat Donnelly from Feenagh-Kilmeedy is also on board as a coach/selector.

Lee’s backroom team will now be put forward for ratification by the County Executive on Thursday, 7 September and, following that, the county committee on Tuesday, 12 September.
