Lily Agg blown away by 'a night I'll never forget'

The only regret Lily Agg has from Thursday night's memorable win over Finland is that her mother wasn't there to see it.

Agg rose from the bench in the 41st minute to replace the injured Ruesha Littlejohn, and went on to head home the goal that won the match and sent Ireland into the World Cup play-offs.

The London City Lionnesses player was excellent from the minute she stepped on the pitch. Her first goal for Ireland was an absolutely crucial one - and the magnitude of it all is still sinking in.

"My partner came over and two of my friends," said Agg.

"My mum was going to come with everyone but the expense of the hotels and so on to get everyone over, plus I wasn't sure what role I might play... my mum is going to have the worst regrets, but it was still very nice to have my partner and friends over.

"It was surreal, an unbelievable experience. I'm not prepared for this! I'm so delighted.

"I honestly didn't know what to prepare for. We knew the team. I was ready to play one minute if I was needed, no minutes, stay on the bench - whatever was needed. I was very nervous to be fair when Ruesha (went down injured). I was like, 'it's me, I've got to get ready, I'm going on'. I tried to zone out and focus on the team task."
