Lexi Thompson leads as Team Maguire finish fifth in New York

Lexi Thompson leads going into the final individual round at the Aramco Team Series – New York after Leona Maguire's team finished joint fifth in the team competition.

Maguire is in a share of 25th in the individual rankings after a level-par round of 72 left her on +2, ten shots behind American Thompson, whose compatriot Nelly Korda is in second on -7.

The Cavan woman had two birdies and two bogeys before finishing with eight consecutive pars.

Her 'Team Maguire' also featuring Liz Young, Tvesa Malik and ex-NFL star/amateur Golden Tate had led by one shot after day one but despite finishing the second round in six under for a total of -17 they were overhauled by several other teams.

Team Gustavsson, comprising Johanna Gustavsson, Jessica Karlsson, Karolin Lampert and amateur Jennifer Rosenberg topped the standings on -24 after a blistering final round of 17 under.

It was a first Ladies European Tour title for Gustavsson and Karlsson.

Captain Gustavsson said: "It's a win. It’s a team win and it’s just great to celebrate with the others and the joy is so much better when you share it as well.

"It’s just been great and having Jennifer with us as well, she’s got a bright future and is turning pro soon, and I think we’ll see her again."
