Lewis Hamilton was 'praying' for Azerbaijan GP to end thanks to back pain

Lewis Hamilton said that he was praying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix to end thanks to the back pain he was suffering on Sunday in the race.

The Briton earned 4th place in Baku but found himself in no shape to celebrate as he moved gingerly out of his Mercedes at the end of the Grand Prix.

Indeed, he was holding his back as he got himself out of the car and was doing so again in the media pen post-race, with it clear the porpoising he was suffering in the Merc was at a level we’ve perhaps not seen all year.

Both he and team-mate George Russell complained of back problems after the Grand Prix, and Hamilton said to Sky he was just praying for it to end:

“I can’t express the pain you experience, particularly on the straight here. I was just praying for it to end.

“We’re in such a good position still, we got third and fourth which is great for the team; the team did a great strategy and once we’ve fixed this bouncing we’ll be right there in the race, but we’re losing about a second through this bouncing.”

The bouncing continues to cause issues with the Mercedes, then, and we’ll just have to see what they can do for Canada next Sunday to try and alleviate the issue.
