Lewis Hamilton's start to 2022 F1 season summed up in damning infographic

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen secured a big win this past weekend at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. 

So far this season, both Red Bull and Ferrari have caught the eye of Formula One fans. 

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc currently sits top of the F1 standings, 12 points ahead of partner Carlos Sainz.

Even though we’re only two races into the new season, it’s fair to say that Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton has really struggled.

Hamilton’s 10th-place finish over the weekend meant that this season has been his worst start since 2009, where he only got one point from the opening two races whilst driving for McLaren.

Since then, he has managed to achieve at least 22 points, which can be seen in the damning infographic below.

As of right now, the Brit sits fifth in the standings with just 16 points. Despite one podium finish, he is already playing catchup.

Speaking after yet another disappointing race, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said: “We have the luxury of being right in those fun games for the last eight years.

“But on the other side it is extremely painful to not be part of those fun games and [missing] quite a chunk lap time deficit.

“We’re not going to rest until we’re back in the mix. But you’re absolutely right, it’s no fun at all.

“[It’s] an exercise in humility and it’s going to make us stronger at the end, even though it’s not fun right now.”

After being knocked out in Q1, the seven-time champion qualified in 16th place for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Following the poor qualifying, Hamilton claimed that the Mercedes car was “undriveable” in what was a disappointing weekend for the team.

With the next Grand Prix set to take place in Australia, Hamilton and Mercedes will be desperate to get back to winning ways as they look to climb up
