Lewis Hamilton: On-board footage shows just how brutal Baku GP bouncing was

Lewis Hamilton has described his race at the 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix as “the most painful” of his entire career as his Mercedes W13 bounced its way through several circuits of the track.

The seven-time Formula 1 world champion had experienced a lot of discomfort during practice and qualifying, on Friday and Saturday, and had expressed his concern that he may not make it through the race.

Team boss, Toto Wolff had stated that Hamilton could struggle to make it to the chequered flag due to immense pain being inflicted by the porpoising.

Despite this, Hamilton managed to battle his way through the 51 laps of the Baku City Circuit on Sunday.

With a double Ferrari DNF there were extra points available, and Hamilton executed many overtakes to take advantage of this ultimately finishing in fourth place behind teammate George Russell in third.

The performance provided a much-needed boost to the team who have had a hugely disappointing season so far.

However, at the end of the race, Hamilton could be seen struggling to climb out of the cockpit and Wolff was heard over the radio apologising for the W13 “behaving like a sh*tbox in the race.”

Now, on board footage has shown just how dramatic the bouncing was and you can hardly blame Hamilton for taking his time to get out of the car at the end of the race.

Hamilton looked like a bobble-head toy as he tore down the Baku straight.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 after the race Hamilton said:

“I can’t express the pain that you experience, particularly on the straight here. And at the end, you’re just praying for it to end.

“We’re in such a good position, we get third and fourth, it is a great result for the team. Really, the team did a great job with the strategy.
