Lewis Hamilton: Mercedes update confirms Briton's Formula 1 stay for 2022

A fresh tweet from Mercedes‘ account on Monday afternoon has put any remaining doubts over Lewis Hamilton’s future to bed with him set to stay in Formula 1 for 2022.

The Briton went into a state of silence across social media after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December, with him controversially denied the world championship on the final lap after Michael Masi’s Safety Car call paved the way for Max Verstappen to nick the title.

Indeed, Masi just let cars between Lewis and Max unlap themselves before letting the field go racing in one final flying lap, in what was an unprecedented and hugely controversial call.

And that silence from Hamilton after the chequered flag spoke volumes over the course of January and early February, with speculation mounting that Hamilton might be considering his future and weighing up walking away from the sport, which would have been a huge shame.

Earlier this month, though, he broke his silence by sharing an ‘I’m back’ post across his channels and, as the days have gone on, it’s become increasingly likely that Hamilton would be remaining in the sport for 2022.

There was though, no real official confirmation Hamilton would be on the grid for 2022, rather that he was just back on social media and active once again.

That, though, has been changed now with Mercedes underlining Hamilton’s entry for the 2022 season, at the start of their launch week for their new car on Friday, with them posting this on social media:

4️⃣4️⃣ is back.
