Lewis Hamilton: "I'll be aggressive in British GP - don't worry!"

Lewis Hamilton vowed to be aggressive in tomorrow’s British Grand Prix after qualifying 5th in a wet session at Silverstone.

The 7-time champion came into the weekend hoping that the Mercedes was going to enjoy the smoother circuit surface at Silverstone compared to the likes of Baku and, indeed, the car did look a fair deal better – though they still seem to be getting some bouncing in the high-speed corners.

Even so, in the wet here at Silverstone the W13 looked well at home and, with a driver at the wheel in Hamilton that excels in such conditions, a front row, or even pole, start was still possible in the closing minutes.

In the end, he backed off to cool down for a final run right at the end of the session and got caught out by the rain getting heavier – meaninghe couldn’t set an even quicker time – and so he has to be content with 5th, but he certainly seemed to be enjoying himself out there.

Speaking to the gathered press post-session, then, he said that the Red Bulls are likely too quick to catch tomorrow afternoon in the race, but he will do all he can to keep them in his sights and then try and attack:

“I don’t know if we can challenge for a win – the Red Bulls are so quick in the dry.

“They don’t have any bouncing but our race pace was a little bit better yesterday so I’m hoping we’re a little bit closer and I can hang on to them – I’ll be aggressive don’t worry!”

Certainly, with eight wins at Silverstone under his belt, if Hamilton has a sniff of victory there is every chance he will take it.

3pm tomorrow afternoon will be where it all starts to unfold.
