Lewis Hamilton future: Handful of details emerge over ongoing FIA investigation

Lewis Hamilton’s future remains up in the air with his silence across social media still ongoing, having all stemmed from the end of the 2021 Formula 1 season, and some details of the FIA investigation into that are starting to drip through.

Hamilton looked well on course to win a record-breaking eighth world title at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix back in December but what happened in the final laps, now infamously, would deny him and hand the championship to season-long rival Max Verstappen.

Since then, Hamilton has adopted a state of silence and there’s been next to nothing seen or heard of him, with speculation swirling that he may be considering his future in the sport ahead of the 2022 campaign.

Indeed, the suggestion is that the conclusions and results from the FIA’s investigation is what will decide whether Hamilton remains on the grid or not, and a report from Giles Richards for The Guardian has given some early details of what might be going on right now:

“Sources inside the FIA insist the sport’s governing body is investigating dispassionately, pursuing a thorough examination of exactly whether the rules were followed. Yet regardless, change is still coming. Peter Bayer is the FIA’s new head of F1, heading the inquiry, and will draw up proposed changes to present to the teams… there seems widespread agreement across the paddock, within the FIA and confirmed by Bayer that Masi can no longer do the job alone and will need assistants to reduce the burden.”

It would be pretty unsatisfactory to say the very least if Hamilton ended a glittering career in F1 on this sour note but that does seem to remain a possibility for now.

The week commencing February 14th could be key, however, with the FIA presenting their findings
