Leona Maguire moves into top five at Las Vegas event

Leona Maguire shot up the leaderboard at the T-Mobile Match Play following a three-under 69 in Las Vegas.

The Cavan native moved into the top five following her second round, which included six birdies and three bogeys, ensuring that she would comfortably made the cut of the top 65 and ties in the mixed format event.

The field will be cut to the top eight following stroke play on Friday, while Saturday morning will begin the single-elimination match-play bracket, with the semi-finals taking place on Saturday afternoon and the championship match contested on Sunday.

Stephanie Meadow is also well placed going into the third round as the Jordanstown golfer added another level par 72 to sit just outside the top ten.

Meadow hit three birdies and three bogeys throughout her round and like Maguire, was out among the early starters on Thursday.

Carlota Ciganda and Angel Yin held the clubhouse lead on four under par with the later starters still out on the track, including Rose Zhang, who was six under at the turn, one shot ahead of Sei Young Kim who was also midway through her round.
