Leona Maguire holds outright lead at halfway point in Women's PGA Championship
Leona Maguire leads outright at the midway point of the Women's PGA Championship after a second round of 68 at Baltusrol in New Jersey.
A birdie at the par-5 17th lifted Maguire to five-under, giving her a one-stroke lead over Mel Reid, Xiyu Lin and Celine Borge around the famous old venue, which was twice the site of Jack Nicklaus US Open victories in 1967 and 1980.
Chasing a first ever major championship, Maguire entered the week in scintillating form following her LPGA Tour victory at the Meijer Classic last Sunday.
After carding what she called a "stress free" 69 on Thursday, Maguire hit her stride on the front nine on Friday, with four birdies in six holes between the fourth and ninth, with only a bogey on 5 interrupting the flow.
