Leona Maguire finishes with a flourish at LPGA Thailand

Leona Maguire finished with a flourish at the LPGA Thailand to end the tournament in a tie for 12th.

The Cavan native carded her strongest round at the Siam Country Club course with a bogey-free 64 to finish on 19 under, seven shots behind her fellow 2021 Solheim Cup rookie team-mate Nanna Koerstz Madsen of Denmark and China's Xiyu Lin who both finished on 26 under to force a deciding play-off.

The Dane prevailed in the play-off with an eagle putt to win on the LPGA Tour for the first time.

FINAL LEADERBOARD

Maguire, who became the first Irish winner on the LPGA Tour last month, started Sunday with purpose, opening up with consecutive birdies on the first two holes, before picking up further shots on the fourth and seventh.

The two-time Olympian immediately maintained that momentum on the back nine with a birdie on the 10th, building on it with another set of back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15 before another on the 18th to finish in style.

Speaking after her round, Maguire was satisfied with how the final day panned out: "My game is in really good shape. I felt like I played really, really good golf tee to green this week. I didn't hole any putts at all the first three days; holed a few today, which was nice. So overall my game is in good shape heading out here."

Maguire added that she would make a brief return home to Ireland before heading back to the US for the next set of LPGA tournaments.

"I'm home for two days. So I have tonight, early morning, home for a couple nights, and then back to Orlando for a little tune up and then west coast," said the 27-year-old.

"I don't get to go home that often. My coach is based back in Dublin, so any time I get to home it's kind of something to work on.
