Leinster v La Rochelle in the Champions Cup final: All you need to know

Here we go again.

For the third year in a row, Leinster's European fate comes down to a meeting with La Rochelle and Ronan O'Gara.

In each of the last two seasons Leo Cullen's side have come up short against La Rochelle; in 2021 they wilted under the French sun in their semi-final at Stade Marcel Deflandre, before a heartbreaking defeat in last year's final in Marseille.

While La Rochelle were deserved winners of last year's final, Leinster led for the majority of the game, and it was Arthur Retiere's try in the 79th minute, converted by Ihaia West, which gave the French side their first ever major trophy.

This year's rematch undoubtedly pits the two best teams in the competition together; La Rochelle have won 15 Champions Cup games in a row since losing the final to Toulouse in 2021, while Ronan O'Gara's side are the only team to have beaten Leinster across the last three seasons.

With both previous meetings of the teams in France, this time Leinster have home advantage to fall back on in the final, a fourth game in as many weeks for Leo Cullen's side at the Aviva Stadium.

Their long unbeaten run at the Aviva was finally broken last week, with their hopes of a URC and European double ended by Jack Crowley and Munster. That result has ramped up the pressure on the province, who have nothing to fall back on after this weekend.

It's a fifth star or nothing.
