Leinster confirm Jason Jenkins signing from Munster

Leinster have signed versatile Munster forward Jason Jenkins for next season.

The 26-year-old second and back row has endured a disastrous run of injuries since arriving at Thomond Park in the summer, with shoulder, thigh and a current abdominal issue seeing him play just 18 minutes of rugby during the campaign.

Having joined on a one-year contract, the Springbok was only expected to be at the province for one season. Jenkins was signed to beef up the pack in the short term following the retirement of CJ Stander.

But with Leinster also keen to add more weight to their forwards, the 6ft 8in back five player fits the bill according to head coach Leo Cullen.

"We understand how unfortunate Jason has been with injuries since his arrival in Ireland but everyone can also see what he brings to the table in terms of his physicality, his size and his skillset and we look forward to welcoming him to Leinster ahead of next season," he said.

"I know from talking to him that he is looking forward to the challenge and putting his hand up for selection in a competitive group of players."

Jenkins says that he wants to finish his time at Munster on a high after what has been a "frustrating" campaign to date.

"First of all, I'd like to thank Johann [van Graan], all the coaches and management staff at Munster and in particular the medical team and physios.

"To say that I have been frustrated with the season and my injuries would be an understatement, but I cannot speak highly enough of the group of people that I have had the privilege of working with.
