Leicester City injury update as Brendan Rodgers explains three absences against PSV

Brendan Rodgers has said that Caglar Soyuncu should be available at the weekend after being left out of the squad for the Europa Conference League clash against PSV Eindhoven.

The centre-back was one of three unexpected absences from the squad with Boubakary Soumare and Ayoze Perez also left out. Speaking after the 0-0 draw, Rodgers confirmed that it was either illness or injury that saw all three miss the game.

“Cags was ill, he just trained today for the first time so he should be ok for the weekend,” he said in his post-match press conference. “Soumare again has been out for a week or so, hopefully he should train with the team tomorrow. And we’ve just got to see how Ayoze Perez is, he’s been ill the last couple of days.”

Soyuncu ’s return comes as both Jonny Evans and Wesley Fofana could be rested for the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace. Both played the full 90 minutes of the draw with PSV, starting just their second game of the season together.

The duo have just returned from longer-term injuries, with Rodgers revealing that both may not play for the visit of Palace. The Eagles are at the King Power Stadium three days after the clash with PSV, it also comes before what will be a crucial second leg just four days later.

It means that Soyuncu could come straight back into the team alongside Daniel Amartey, with the duo being the most regular centre-back partnership so far this season. Both Soumare and Perez are expected to be named on the bench should they recover in time for the weekend.
