Leicester City have 'edged ahead' of Arsenal and Leeds in major bid

Leicester City’s King Power Stadium is reportedly the ‘frontrunner’ to host next season’s Community Shield.

City are the current holders of the trophy, having beaten current Premier League champions Manchester City at Wembley Stadium back in August. Kelechi Iheanacho’s late penalty was enough to see City lift their second piece of silverware at the ground in four months after winning the FA Cup back in May.

This year’s Community Shield won’t feature City, with the side out of both the FA Cup and the Premier League title race, but the club still could be involved in the final with the King Power Stadium potentially being the host venue.

The match is scheduled for July 31, but that means Wembley Stadium will be unavailable due to hosting the women’s European final being played on the same day. According to the Daily Mail , City’s stadium has now ‘edged ahead’ of other venues in the race to host the event.

The final will take place between the FA Cup winners, Liverpool or Chelsea, and the Premier League champions, Liverpool or Man City. If Liverpool win both competitions, then Jurgen Klopp’s team will play second placed Man City.

The report says that the King Power Stadium looks to be beating off competition from the Emirates Stadium and the London Stadium with their bids ‘unlikely to be successful.’ Aston Villa’s Villa Park, which hosted the fixture back in 2012, along with Leeds United’s Elland Road are also said to be interested, but the report claims that officials are ‘likely to be disappointed,’ with the King Power Stadium now favourite to be chosen.
