Leicester City fan runs onto pitch and punches Nottingham Forest players during FA Cup

There were shocking scenes in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday when a Leicester City fan sprinted onto the pitch and tried to punch celebrating Nottingham Forest players.

The Championship side pulled off the most remarkable result of the round by knocking the FA Cup holders out of the competition thanks to a brilliant 4-1 victory at the City Ground.

Forest enjoyed a blistering 10-minute period in the first half in which they netted three goals, with Philip Zinckernagel, Brennan Johnson and Joe Worrall all netting.

But after skipper Worrall’s effort in the 32nd-minute a scuffle broke out as the Forest players celebrated which was not initially picked up by the BBC’s cameras.

Fan footage shows a Leicester fan jump the barriers and run onto the pitch, making a beeline for the Forest players and throwing at least three punches – one of which connected with striker Keinan Davis.

The players managed to fend off the attacks and push the so-called fan away before two stewards intervened and wrestled the supporter to the ground.

He was later led away by police and will now face a lifetime ban, with Nottingham Forest confirming the man has been arrested and is in police custody.

A statement from Leicester read: ‘The club is appalled by such behaviour and offers its apologies to Nottingham Forest and its players whose safety was compromised.

‘We applaud the swift action taken by City Ground stewards in apprehending the individual involved, who will be subject to a lifetime ban from all Leicester City fixtures at home and away. We will offer every support to the relevant authorities in pursuing further appropriate action.’
