Leicester City can unleash partnership at Manchester United not seen since FA Cup final

Jonny Evans and Wesley Fofana will be able to play together for the first time since the FA Cup final when Leicester City travel to Manchester United this weekend.

The two centre-backs have been declared fit to feature at Old Trafford on Saturday evening, when City’s campaign resumes following the international break. Due to their injury issues, they have not played together since the Wembley success last May, while in the Premier League the last game with both in the starting line-up was Southampton away last April.

Fofana made his comeback from a seven-month lay-off in Rennes, scoring on his first game back from the broken leg he suffered in pre-season, while Evans played for the first time in 2022 as a substitute in the 2-1 win over Brentford just before the international break. Now, both could be in the squad together. Read more here.

Harry Maguire is experiencing the harsh reality of the warning he was given by Brendan Rodgers upon his departure from Leicester City.

The centre-back was the subject of boos from England supporters this week amid a difficult campaign with Manchester United. The Red Devils host City on Saturday knowing this will be their fifth straight trophy-less season.

As captain and as an £80m signing, Maguire has taken much of the criticism aimed at United, which has proven Rodgers’ warning from 2019, when the defender left the King Power Stadium. The City boss told Maguire that he had to be ready for the pressure to ramp up now he was at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Read what Rodgers said here, including his thoughts on his behaviour during his exit from the King Power Stadium.
