Legendary duo Jamie Peacock and Martin Offiah give their predictions on the Betfred Super League season

To win a Super League title takes a special kind of team.

You need a certain spirit, togetherness, and of course quality players in every department.

Perhaps most importantly, you have to be able to call on a collective desire.

As a player who won a record nine Grand Finals during his remarkable career, Jamie Peacock is better qualified than anyone to assess what it takes to lift the Super League trophy.

He claimed a winners’ ring three times with Bradford Bulls before joining his hometown club Leeds Rhinos and playing his part in another six victories in the annual title decider.

That makes Peacock peerless in Super League history while legendary former winger Martin Offiah, as the greatest try-scorer of his generation, is another icon of the 13-a-side code.

The charismatic Londoner touched down a staggering 501 times during an extraordinary career and was part of the all-conquering Wigan team after joining them from Widnes in January 1992 for a world record fee of £440,000.

Peacock and Offiah both gained international honours with England and Great Britain and remain two of the most respected names in the game.

Not surprisingly, Peacock is hoping that his old club Leeds can rediscover the title-winning formula which carried them to eight Old Trafford victories between 2004 and 2017.

Peacock is enthused by the Rhinos’ acquisition of half-backs Aidan Sezer and Blake Austin, winger David Fusitu’a and second-rower James Bentley.

But will it be enough to stop St Helens from marching to an unprecedented fourth successive Super League title this year?
