Leeds United enquire over potential transfer of Barcelona star, with deal seen as easy win

Leeds United are reportedly ‘very interested’ in a deal for Barcelona defender Oscar Mingueza, and ‘everything indicates’ he could move on.

The Whites are in something of a tough spot off the back of a troublesome season. However, successive wins over Norwich and Wolves before the international break gives them some breathing distance at the foot of the table. Indeed, they currently sit seven points above the Premier League drop zone.

The Elland Road outfit though have fallen a long way below the high standards they set themselves last season. With Marcelo Bielsa’s free-flowing football at its best, Leeds secured a ninth-placed finish on their return to the top flight.

An injury crisis, among other factors, has led to the side failing to live up to the same standards. Indeed, Bielsa was sacked after a four-game losing streak, with a 4-0 home loss to Tottenham the final straw.

Leeds are beginning to turn things around under new boss Jesse Marsch. The American is beginning to stamp his mark on the side with his sligth tactical tweaks.

However, defensive instability remains a big concern, with Leeds having shipped 67 league goals this term – the most in the division.

As such, improving on that defence is a must moving forwards. Leeds appear to be aware of that, as they have identified a centre-back as a potential target.

Sport claims that the Whites are keen on Barcelona defender Mingueza, and have ‘asked about his situation’. The centre-back has made 61 appearances for La Blaugrana, though he has started just 13 games this season.

With that being said, there could be a potential move away from Camp Nou on the cards.

While the 22-year-old has not had too much experience in senior football, he appears a capable defender.
