Leeds United 2-4 Man United: Anthony Elanga goal settles thrilling encounter

Leeds United and Manchester United played out a thrilling encounter at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

The rivalry between the two clubs is fierce and the energy generated from the crowd seemed to rub off on the players, who played out an electric 90 minutes.

Leeds’ recovered from a 2-0 deficit to level the scores but substitute Anthony Elanga settled the game to provide a boost to United’s top four hopes.

Manchester United cruised into a 2-0 lead thanks to first half goals from Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes.

In the 34th minute, Maguire ended United’s corner curse – they had failed with their previous 139 attempts – to head home a Luke Shaw delivery.

Then in first half injury time it was Fernandes’ turn to score a header, this time from Jadon Sancho’s cross.

Leeds scored two goals in 24 seconds to level the scores within nine minutes of the restart.

“Football, don’t you love it?,” Sky Sports commentary Martin Tyler appropriately asked.

In the 53rd minute, Rodrigo sent a ball in from the left that he’ll argue was intended for the back of the net.

Others will disagree, but David de Gea was caught out and Leeds had a goal back.

They had to wait a matter of seconds before the equaliser.
