Leeds: ‘Intentional’ Marsch plan ‘not a great idea’ at Elland Road

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has intentionally acted in a fiery way on the touchline to get a similar response from his players on the pitch, but it is not a ‘great idea’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The American has overseen a mixed start to the Premier League season at Elland Road with disciplinary problems often marring his tenure in charge of the Whites.

Sunday afternoon saw Marsch’s side hold Aston Villa to a 0-0 draw in West Yorkshire despite being made to play nearly the entire second half with 10 men.

Luis Sinisterra – a £21 million summer signing from Feyenoord – was shown a second yellow card in the 48th minute after illegally blocking a Villa free-kick.

The Colombian had made a fast start to life at his new club, notching three goals and an assist in his first six appearances, but will be eager to forget his latest contribution.

After full-time, Patrick Bamford concurred with the referee’s decision and labelled his new teammate ‘naïve’, adding that it was ‘weird’ to see the 23-year-old so downbeat.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards described Sinisterra’s decision to deliberately block the free-kick as ‘strange’.

Jones believes that the fiery approach from players on the pitch is part of a deliberate tactic from Marsch, who is often an animated figure on the touchline.

The journalist adds that players often mirror the mood of their managers and that it is not necessarily a wise move.
