Leeds: £35m star 'will be paid handsomely' at Elland Road

Leeds United ‘have no choice’ but to offer Jack Harrison a major pay increase in a bid to keep the fan favourite at Elland Road, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Whites spent close to £100million bolstering their squad during the summer transfer window, but they have now set their sights on ensuring one of their key men will remain in Yorkshire.

According to Football Insider, Leeds are preparing to offer Harrison a lucrative new contract which would see him earn double his current salary.

The report suggests the Whites are ready to head to the negotiating table and willing to put a major wage increase on the table as they look to tie the former England under-21 international down to fresh terms.

Harrison has entered the final two years of his £60,000-per-week contract, leading to question marks over his long-term future.

Leeds were desperate to hold onto the winger after he attracted interest during the summer transfer window and reportedly set a £35million price tag.

Harrison is expected to feature prominently on Newcastle United’s wishlist in January, having failed with two separate bids earlier this year, while Tottenham Hotspur have also been admirers.

Jones understands that Leeds are insistent that Harrison is not available and, as a result, they want to fend off suitors by tying him down to a new contract.

The transfer insider believes the winger's performances, along with the ongoing interest in his services, means the Whites will have to hand the 25-year-old a considerable pay increase.
