Leeds 2-4 Man Utd: Anthony Elanga taunted home fans at full-time

Leeds United 2-4 Manchester United was a bona fide Premier League classic.

Sure, it wasn’t beautiful football from start to finish due to the abhorrent weather conditions at Elland Road, but it was still a ridiculously entertaining fixture.

It was a match that had classic 1970s old-school vibes to it thanks to the number of sliding tackles from both sets of players and the truly woeful state of the pitch throughout proceedings.

In the end it was United who coped with the conditions best to secure a priceless 4-2 victory that keeps them firmly in the hunt for the top four.

Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes put Ralf Rangnick’s side 2-0 ahead in the first half, but Leeds came roaring back after the restart and had the scores level at 2-2 by the 54th-minute thanks to a freak goal by Rodrigo Moreno and a close-range strike from Raphinha.

However, United kept their composure in the latter stages of the match and grabbed two late goals through second half substitutes Fred and Anthony Elanga.

The latter’s goal in the final two minutes of normal time was a moment of sweet revenge for him, as he’d been struck by a coin thrown from the stands while celebrating the Red Devils’ third goal by Fred.

They’re scenes no one wants to see on a football pitch at any level, but Elanga didn’t complain, returned to the field of the play after receiving some treatment and then secured all three points for his side with a well-taken strike of his own.

The young winger then decided to rub more salt in the wounds of Leeds fans at full-time by facing them and pointing to the United badge.
