Lee Dixon highlights 'worrying sign' for Arsenal ahead of top-four battle

Lee Dixon says Arsenal’s recent record against the top teams in the Premier League is a ‘worrying sign’ for Mikel Arteta’s side.

After losing 2-1 to Manchester City on New Year’s Day, the Gunners went on to win five of their following six games in the Premier League.

Their run of five consecutive victories was brought to an end by Liverpool, with the Reds winning 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium earlier this month.

The winning streak has, however, propelled Arsenal into fourth position in England’s top flight.

With 10 Premier League games left, the north Londoners will be looking to earn Champions League qualification, but will face competition from the likes of Tottenham, Manchester United and West Ham.

Although they played relatively well in the recent defeats to Man City and Liverpool, Arsenal legend Dixon feels his former club need to get results from matches against the teams at the top of the table.

‘I look at who they’ve played [recently]… the only two teams, they’ve played Liverpool and Man City, and they lost both of them,’ Dixon said on the Seaman Says podcast.

‘Played really well against City – lost, played really well against Liverpool in the first half – lost.

‘All the other games they should be winning, the only other tough game in there was West Ham. I’m using the term loosely, tough games, they’re all tough.

‘If we’d had a couple of defeats in there you’d go, “They shouldn’t be losing those games”.

‘So there is still in the back of my mind that they’ve got to play well against the big teams like they have done, but they’ve got to get something out of them.

‘That’s the only worrying sign for me is when they play a big team, they get up for the game, but they don’t win them.’
