Laura Wolvaardt gets WPL berth as Beth Mooney's replacement at Gujarat Giants
After the initial disappointment of missing out on the inaugural Women's Premier League in India, there was good news for Proteas batter Laura Wolvaardt on Wednesday.
With Australia's Beth Mooney forced to withdraw from the Gujurat Giants squad due to a knee injury, Wolvaardt, the highest run-scorer at the recently completed T20 World Cup, was named her replacement.
Wolvaardt will fly to India from Pakistan, where she was participating in PCB's Women's League exhibition matches for the Super Women.
Proteas captain, Sune Luus, will take Wolvaardt's place in the Super Women squad.
In a statement released by the PCB website, Wolvaardt said she had loved her short time in Pakistan and was looking forward to returning to the country later in the year with the Proteas.
"I want to thank the PCB for this opportunity to play in the Women's League exhibition matches," said Wolvaardt.
"It has been an incredibly short journey, but I have loved the experience. The team has been amazing, and I have felt so welcomed. "I cannot wait to return to Pakistan in September with South Africa's national women's team and learning more about this amazing country."
