Late VAR drama as Sundowns suffer CAF Champions League loss in Angola
Mamelodi Sundowns were beaten 2-1 by Petro de Luanda in their CAF Champions League quarter-final first-leg in Luanda, Angola on Saturday night.
The Brazilians got off to the perfect start when Lyle Lakay scored with a free-kick from distance that deflected into the bottom corner.
However, the hosts weren't behind for too long as they equalised with their first effort at goal thanks to Tiago Azulao's composed finish at the near post.
Petro de Luanda completed the turnaround just before half-time when Yano fired home from close range after Onyango had kept out Azulao's flick at the near post.
Sundowns pressed in the second stanza but struggles to break through.
Right at the death, Sundowns finally had the ball in the back of the net after a solid strike from Neo Maema. However, the goal was ruled out by VAR due to foul in the build-up, allowing the hosts to hang on for the win.
