Lando Norris eyeing full strength return at Monaco GP after tonsillitis

Lando Norris has said that he is making sure he rests this week before getting into the Monaco Grand Prix, after suffering from tonsillitis at the Spanish Grand Prix last weekend.

The McLaren driver earned a P8 finish in Barcelona at the weekend and boy, did he earn it, with him tackling the mid 30C heat whilst also fighting tonsillitis.

Indeed, before the race he was looking unwell and by the end of it he was too poorly to face the media, with him instead being checked over by medical staff and taking on a hell of a lot of fluid.

He’s on the mend now, though, and he’ll be eager to try and earn more points in Monaco, especially after earning a podium finish in 2021 at the same circuit.

Speaking ahead of the iconic Grand Prix, Norris revealed that he is taking it a bit easy this week before going full throttle around the streets of Monte-Carlo:

“I always look forward to the Monaco weekend. It will be nice to be racing so close to home, particularly as I can wake up in my own bed! Last year it was a fantastic race for me and whilst we’re not back at that level just yet, I’m hoping we can pick up some good points here. Qualifying on Saturday is going to be key but it will be interesting to see how the race plays out on Sunday with these new cars. 

“I’m taking these few days to rest up and to focus on getting better before diving into Monaco. Spain was incredibly tough, but I was very pleased to get some points for the team. Let’s keep moving forward and ensure we’re ready for the busy weekend ahead!” 

The Briton is having another strong season and is getting the very best out of his McLaren MCL36.
