Lalong links Plateau State’s growing tourism industry to golf development

Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong, has attributed the influx of visitors to the state to its thriving golf culture, which has been on the ascendancy since he assumed office in 2015.

The governor disclosed this at the weekend during the tee-off ceremony of the 2022 Governor’s Cup at the Lamingo Golf Course in Jos.

This year’s tournament attracted the best of the country’s professional golfers and some of Africa’s top stars.

Lalong said tourism development and economy were the major reasons his administration prioritised the revival of the sport, explaining that many people, who did not know Jos before, have started identifying with the city because of golf.

The governor revealed that one of his friends, a Ghanaian, told him that all the hotels in Jos were fully booked in the last one week.

“That is the economy. It is also adding to tourism. Today, I am very happy that by the grace of God, we are ending very well,” he said.

Lalong, who noted that this year’s Governor’s Cup would be the last before leaving office in 2023, prayed that the next administration would sustain the effort.

The Governor’s Cup offers players the best prizes in different categories, including cash and household items.
