Lakers, Luka Doncic reach agreement on three-year max contract extension

Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers are coming off a first-round exit, and next season will be Luka’s first full season with the Lakers. Jason McIntyre says that the Lakers will be fine with Luka taking charge.

Luka Doncic will not test the free agency market. Instead, the five-time NBA All-Star has agreed to a contract extension that will tie him to the Los Angeles Lakers through 2028.

Doncic and the Lakers finalized a three-year maximum contract extension. ESPN reported, citing an agent, that the deal was worth $165 million. The Lakers don't publicly announce the details of contracts.

The Slovenian superstar's previous contact included a player option for the 2026-27 campaign.
