Lady in the Lake's Noah Jupe: Where you've seen him before and his Coronation Street connection

A new limited Apple TV series starring Natalie Portman and Noah Jupe has dropped on Apple TV.

Lady in the Lake is based on the 2019 novel of the same name by Laura Lippman. The TV adaptation centres on the disappearance of a young girl in the city of Baltimore on Thanksgiving 1966.

The lives of two women converge as Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman), a Jewish housewife seeking to shed a secret past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist, and Cleo Sherwood (Moses Ingram), a mother navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while struggling to provide for her family, cross paths.

Their disparate lives seem parallel at first, but when Maddie becomes fixated on Cleo’s mystifying death, a chasm opens that puts everyone around them in danger. Described as a 'feverish noir thriller' from director Alma Har’el, Lady in the Lake tells the unexpected tale of the price women pay for their dreams.

Author Laura Lipmann took inspiration from two real-life murders that unfolded when she was child. The first was the abduction and murder of 11-year-old Esther Lebowitz, a white Jewish girl whose death was heavily publicized.

The second death was 33-year-old Shirley Parker, a black woman who was found dead in the fountain of the Druid Hill Park Reservoir. Her death was only publicised in African-American newspapers.

The cast also includes Y'lan Noel as Ferdie Platt, Mikey Madison as Judith Weinstein and Sean Ringgold as The Prophet. Brett Gelman plays Milton, Josiah Cross is Reggie Robinson and Noah Jupe is Seth.
