Kyra Carusa helps San Diego Wave to maiden NWSL Shield
Ireland forward Kyra Carusa picked up silverware on Sunday, as part of the San Diego Wave side that won the team's first ever NWSL Shield.
The shield is awarded to the team with the most points at the end of the National Women's Soccer League regular season, and was taken home by the Wave after a 2-0 victory over Racing Louisville.
The result saw San Diego overtake Portland Thorns on the final day, with the Thorns falling to a 5-1 defeat at Angel City. The trophy is the first for the club since they were formed in 2021.
Carusa started the game alongside United States striker Alex Morgan, although the Ireland international was withdrawn at half-time by San Diego manager, and former Manchester United boss, Casey Stoney.
Jaedyn Shaw scored the opening goal for the hosts on 26 minutes before Morgan added a second just two minutes into the second half.
San Diego-born Carusa joined her hometown club in August, on the back of her performances for Ireland at the Women's World Cup in Australia.
She has been among the goals for the Girls in Green recently, netting in Nations League wins over Northern Ireland and Hungary in September.
Elsewhere, Sinead Farrelly came on as second-half substitute in Gotham FC's 2-2 draw at home to KC Current, a result which saw Gotham clinch the final play-off spot.
Farrelly will come up against her international teammate Denise O'Sullivan in the play-offs, with sixth-placed Gotham set to face third-placed North Carolina Courage.
Courage won 1-0 at Washington Spirit, with O'Sullivan wearing the captain's armband, while another Ireland international, Marissa Sheva, was an unused substitute for the hosts.
