Kurt Angle was offered match against WWE legend following retirement

Kurt Angle retired from wrestling in April 2019 following his loss at WWE WrestleMania 35 to Baron Corbin, however there was a chance that wasn’t going to be his final match.

Many fans were left disappointed with WWE for picking Corbin as Angle’s final opponent, with many wanting the Olympic gold medalist to instead face John Cena.

Cena didn’t have a match at WrestleMania 35, and given the fact his WWE debut was a match against Kurt, many people thought that match could be a poetic way to end Angle’s career.

However, WWE didn’t go down that route, with Vince McMahon being insistent on having Kurt and Corbin end their feud.

And now, speaking to fellow ex-WWE star Rene Dupree, Kurt has revealed that he was offered a match with Cena after his retirement, which he obviously turned down.

If you wanna wait till next year, I’ll give you John Cena next year.’. I told [him I couldn’t wait another year]. He did give me the option of going another year and wrestling Cena, and I probably shoulda done that looking back.

Angle said that he asked Vince if he could be retired by Corbin, which the ex-WWE Chairman obviously rejected.

Kurt did explain that in hindsight, Vince was right, and the correct decision was for him to finish his feud with Baron Corbin.

I totally understood. Vince was right, I was doing a program with Baron. It was going five or six months and I had to see it through
