Klopp speaks out on Jota and Firmino injuries ahead of Carabao Cup final

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool will ‘try everything’ to ensure Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino are back to full fitness for the club’s Carabao Cup final clash with Chelsea this weekend.

Jota sustained an ankle injury in Liverpool’s Champions League last-16 first leg win over Inter Milan last Wednesday and Firmino came on to replace the Portuguese at the halfway stage at the San Siro.

Firmino went on to extend the visitors’ advantage with a glancing header in the 75th minute, but the Brazil international joined Jota on Klopp’s list of injury concerns after picking up a muscular problem.

The pair subsequently missed the Reds’ 3-1 victory over Norwich at the weekend, with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and January signing Luis Diaz all starting and scoring at Anfield.

Though the attacking duo are expected to be sidelined for Liverpool’s midweek encounter with Leeds, Klopp – speaking to the club’s official website on Monday – said he was hopeful they could still play a part at Wembley.

Asked about Jota and Firmino’s availability, Klopp replied: ‘Yes, it’s too early.

‘I don’t even know if it will be a late decision or not; how I said, it’s too early.

‘I saw them both today, they both look great – but those two always look great.

‘We have to see how the specific issues develop, but we obviously will try everything.’

Speaking shortly after Liverpool’s defeat of Norwich, Klopp indicated that Firmino’s injury was the more serious out of the two and suggested the Brazilian could be ‘out for a while’.

‘With Diogo, it looks a little bit better than we first thought,’ the Liverpool head coach told reporters.
