Klopp fires back with question of his own after being baited by Spanish journalist; reveals Liverpool approach to Villarreal tie

Jurgen Klopp shut down a Spanish journalist who highlighted a worrying statistic, and revealed how Liverpool will approach their Champions League trip to Villarreal on Tuesday.

The Reds will seek to advance to their third Champions League final in five years on Tuesday night. Liverpool travel to Spain to face Villarreal with a handy two-goal advantage in the bank.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (via the Liverpool Echo), Klopp was asked if it was “job done” after the first leg.

“If I was younger I’d have been really angry with the question,” admitted Klopp.

“Of course, no. It’s only half-time. We have to go there and try to win, knowing Villarreal they will go with all they have.”

Klopp can call upon the entirety of his squad for the contest barring Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian has missed the last few matches with a foot complaint, though a stomach bug within the camp has now cleared up.

Klopp stated Firmino’s issue is a “strain” in the middle bone in his foot, though stated: “Bobby is now running.

“It’s nothing serious but it’s very painful each step. He will travel with us but won’t be involved in the squad yet. Then we had issues with stomach bug (Tsimikas, Jones, Origi) but they are all back.”

The last two questions in his press conference were asked by members of the Spanish press.

One particular journalist asked Klopp if he’s worried about never having won in seven separate away matches in Spain.

That statistic also referenced his time at Borussia Dortmund, though Klopp was quick to point out how the stat doesn’t tell the full story.

Dortmund were Champions League runners-up under Klopp in 2013 and knocked out Malaga and Real Madrid on route to the final.

Dortmund did not win either of their away legs
