Kildare become latest team to opt out of O'Byrne Cup game

Kildare have followed Louth in withdrawing from their midweek O'Byrne Cup fixture, claiming they are unable to field a team against Westmeath.

Glen Ryan’s side are unable to qualify for the semi-finals of the competition after defeat to the Wee County last weekend.

They were due to travel to Kinnegad for the fixture on Wednesday but claim they can’t complete their campaign owing to players preparing for exams, upcoming Sigerson Cup commitments and wanting to focus on preparations for the Allianz Football League.

The game is a dead-rubber as neither side can qualify for the next stage.

There are now just three matches taking place on Wednesday, Laois against Carlow, Offaly face Dublin and Meath take on Longford.

Yesterday Louth pulled out of their fixture with Wexford for similar reasons, but they will be in action in this weekend's semi-finals.
