Newcastle United January signing Kieran Tripper has reignited an old fued between Jurgen Klopp and Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone.

After Liverpool were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Atletico in March 2020, Klopp delivered an honest verdict as to how his opponents play and said that he believed "they could play proper football but they stand deep in their own half and have counter-attacks."

The Liverpool boss did clarify what he meant when the two sides met this season, saying: “I couldn't respect more what they do."

But Trippier, who at time was playing in Spain with Atletico, has since defended his old club and called Klopp's opinion 'unfair.'

While Liverpool are unlikely to add anyone in the January transfer window, the same can't be said for the summer.

Klopp will want to strengthen the first-team squad in an attempt to win not only the Premier League but the Champions League as well.
