Kieran McKenna confirms Ipswich Town injury blow

Ipswich Town will be without Kyle Edwards for much of the next few months after he suffered a quad injury.

The winger joined from West Brom in the summer on a permanent basis and was seen as a real coup for the Tractor Boys. However, Edwards has endured a frustrating campaign so far, struggling to play consistently.

Unfortunately for the 24-year-old, things haven’t changed since Kieran McKenna’s appointment, with Edwards barely featuring in the past month or so under the former Manchester United coach.

And, his game time is going to be limited, as the boss gave a grim update on the player when speaking to the club’s media yesterday after he picked up a quad problem.

“It will certainly be towards the back end of the season before we see him again.”

McKenna is working with a big squad as he looks to guide the Suffolk outfit to the top six in League One. Ipswich are currently 9th in the table and five points away from the play-offs ahead of the games this afternoon.

The verdict

Firstly, you have sympathy for Edwards here as picking up an injury will have been hugely frustrating, particularly as he wasn’t getting the game time he wanted.

But, these things happen in football and it’s down to the player to do the work and come back properly, as he could still have a role to play before the season finishes.

When Edwards does return, the stakes could be high, as Ipswich will hope they will be in the play-off places.
