Kevin Phillips questions West Brom star’s goalscoring proweess amid poor form

Former West Bromwich Albion forward Kevin Phillips believes it will be a ‘big ask’ for former England international Andy Carroll to record 10 to 15 goals between now and the end of the season in their quest to reach the top six, speaking to West Brom News.

These comments come amid the Baggies’ poor form in front of goal, failing to score a single goal in new manager Steve Bruce’s opening three games in charge and struggling in front of goal even before then under predecessor Valerien Ismael.

In a bid to address their problems in the final third, the second-tier side’s board forked out a fee believed to be in the region of £7m to recruit Orlando City forward Daryl Dike, though his injury has proved to be a real source of frustration and arguably cost Ismael his job in the end.

Karlan Grant has adapted well to the Championship again after a poor season in the Premier League last term, recording a respectable 10 goals in 31 appearances as a wide player during 2021/22 thus far.

However, not many other players have been able to step up to the plate in terms of finding the back of the net and with Dike injured, free agent Andy Carroll was recruited in the latter stages of January in a bid to solve their attacking woes.

But he’s failed to score his first goal for the West Midlands outfit yet after having four games to prove his worth – and pundit Phillips doubts whether he can be a regular goalscorer for the remainder of this term.
