Kevin Phillips makes exciting claim over talented West Brom player

Former West Brom favourite Kevin Phillips believes that Taylor Gardner-Hickman can be key to the club moving forward under Steve Bruce.

Albion have endured a hugely frustrating season, with the side languishing in the bottom half of the table despite having been one of the favourites for promotion before a ball was kicked.

However, one of the few positives for the Baggies has been the emergence of Taylor Gardner-Hickman, who has established himself as an important member of the first-team squad.

And, speaking to West Brom News, Phillips was full of praise for the versatile 20-year-old.

“I watched him play earlier on in the season against Coventry and was very impressed, he got man of the match. He’s a player. They’ve had to be a bit cautious with him, a young kid, you can’t rely on him too much, but these young kids nowadays they play with no pressure.

“They’re full of confidence so yeah, so long as he’s performing week in week out, and there’s not a lot of games left, why would he not be? So he could be the jewel in the crown that Bruce has been looking for.”

The verdict

There’s no doubt that Gardner-Hickman has been a real positive for Albion, as he has impressed whenever he has given a chance and you would expect him to be a regular for the years to come.

Of course, you don’t want to put too much pressure on the youngster, because he is still very inexperienced, but Phillips obviously recognises his talent.

Now, it’s down to Gardner-Hickman to maintain the high standards he’s set so far over the next few months to help Albion have a strong end to the finish.
